Las Libretas are the Spanish name for a food and supplies booklet that every Cuban citizen has been issued since Fidel Castro’s revolution in 1959. They are intimate written records of people’s lives, and an important aspect of the Cuban socialist safety net. As foreign capital and influence flood the country, the future of the La Libreta is more unclear than ever.
